SNP Bird’s Nest Aqua Ampoule Mask – Review

Korean sheet masks are very popular in modern skin care.   There are so many of them on the market that sometimes I wish that I had 2 or 3 faces, so I could try them all lol 🙂

I tried SNP Bird’s Nest Aqua Ampoule Mask for the first time over a year ago.

And then I tried many SNP masks after and I must say that this mask is actually my favourite one out of the whole SNP line.

Sheet masks are very common in Korean skin care and claim to deliver a wide variety of benefits from hydrating and moisturizing to pore reduction etc.

I’ve tried, I think, over 50 different sheet masks so far and realized that the main purpose of this type of masks is it to hydrate.  In addition to hydration, the second main purpose is divided between nourishing and brightening/whitening.

All other claims by masks are not important because, in my opinion, it is impossible to “erase wrinkles”, “shrink pores”, “lift sagging skin” and so on with one mask application during 15-30 minutes.

SNP Bird’s Nest Aqua Ampoule Mask is an excellent affordable sheet mask that nourish and pamper anyone’s skin.

SNP stands for Shining Nature Purity,  and it is a well known cosmetic company in South Korea.

This mask promises to repair, nourish, moisturize tired mature skin; it also minimizes dryness, fine lines and dullness.

The Bird’s Nest Aqua Ampoule Mask contains 1,000 mg of swiftlet nest extract.

What is swiftlet nest extract?

Swiftlet is a type of birds that live in South East Asia and Southern China.

Swiftlets make their nests using saliva, which solidifies when is exposed to air.  Swiftlet nest is a well known delicacy and one of the most expensive ones (it will cost you around $3.000 US for a pound of swiftlet’s nests) – wikipedia.

Swiftlet’s nests are very popular in traditional Chinese medicine for anti-aging, anti-viral, anti-bacterial and nourishing purposes.

Bird’s nest extract is an age-old ingredient and is famous for its hydrating and wound healing purposes.

In skin care bird’s nests extract helps maintaining youthful skin and prevents signs of aging.  Swiftlet’s nest extract generously moisturizes skin, improves its elasticity, tone and texture.  Extract also contains different vitamins, minerals, and nourishing agents which are very beneficial to the skin.

To be honest, I was very cautious about alcohol, because you should be avoiding alcohol in skin care all together.  Alcohol can dry your skin.  However, after very long research, I was able to find out that this mask has very, very low amount of alcohol, that is not damaging to the skin.

Glycerin is good for your skin, because it creates a protective barrier on top of the skin.  This barrier helps keep skin moisture inside.

Centella asiatica is rich in Vitamin B1, B2, A and C.  It is also very rich in niacin and carotene, which brighten skin and fight premature aging.  It also contains madecassic acid, which reduces inflammation (perfect for acne prone and irritated skin).

Hamamelis virginiana (witch hazel) extract –  this extract is so good for skin conditioning and soothing.

Camellia sinensis leaf extract – green tea extract; excellent for anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties.

Sodium hyaluronate – famous hyaluronic acid, that provides exceptional hydration to tired skin.

Anthemis nobilis flower extract – chamomile extract that relieves inflammatory skin conditions and calms sensitive skin. Provides some antioxidant protection, soothes and moisturizes skin.

Ceramide 3 – ceramides help to form skin protective barrier and help skin retain moisture.

How to use:

  • Clean your face using your usual cleansing products
  • Tone skin
  • Apply mask sheet to your face avoiding area around lips and eyes.  Leave for 10 to 20 minutes (I leave for 20), remove sheet and discard.  Sometimes, if I am not too lazy, I would use jade massage roller over the mask to enhance its benefits and penetration of useful ingredients.  You do not need to wash off mask essence, just pat it into the skin.
  • Follow with your usual skin care products

Impression:

This masks definitely provides very visible and noticeable hydration, brightening and toning in my skin.  I did not expect any miracles and I did not get any.  This mask delivered what it promised: my skin did look brighter, tone became more even, and skin feel very moisturized.

Because mask delivered such rich hydration to my skin, I could say that it did minimize appearance of fine lines.

I used this mask every third day until I ran out of all 10 pieces.  So, I used it for about a month consistently.

I noticed that mask has cumulative effect, meaning that with every following usage, my skin looked better and brighter.

I would recommend this mask to a friend. As a bonus, this mask smells so nice and gentle; it also has a beautiful packaging.

As I mentioned before, it is a middle-range, non luxury sheet mask, that is very affordable and delivers amazing results for its price.

This mask is suitable for any skin type, however, if you have sensitive skin, be careful.  Perform a patch test first to make sure that your skin will not react to any ingredient.
