6 DIY Hair Masks For Damaged Hair

DIY hair masks for damaged, frizzy hair. They are deep conditioning, heal split ends , moisturizing, and will repair your hair.

Our hair require a lot of care and attention.  We have to wash it, condition, blow dry it, style, straighten or curl it, apply mouse, hair spray, gel and so on and so forth.

A lot of us also are not too happy with our hair: we find our hair to be too dry or too oily.  When we have curly hair, we would do anything to straighten it.  And those with straight hair spend so much time and so many products to achieve beautiful curls.

In any event, I think you would agree that we expose our locks to a huge variety of products and dangerous chemicals.

Curling irons or wands, hair iron and hair dryer all contribute to the damage.

In addition our hair is exposed to sun; wind, cold, environmental pollution, car smog and so on.

No wonder, it takes so much effort sometimes to have healthy looking shiny hair.

So, we all need some sort of hair treatment to care for our beautiful locks.  There are many good masks on the market.

However, commercial products could be expensive.  And let’s be honest, they also contain chemicals and preservatives that could be harmful for our hair.

We can always seek help in the kitchen and make our own natural hair masks from simple, but yet very effective ingredients.

In this post tried to cover most common hair problems and solutions to them with a help of DIY hair masks.

How to make natural hair masks?

When preparing any homemade products, always use organic products.  This way you will be able to minimize and even avoid harmful chemicals and pesticides.

Don’t be afraid to be creative: you do not really have to follow any recipe word by word.  If you do not have an ingredient, do not worry about it.  Your mask will turn out good and helpful regardless if you skipped something in a recipe.

The above also works other way around: do not hesitate to add any ingredient that you love even if it is not in the original recipe.

Most masks contain fresh products that should be kept in the fridge.  That means that shelf mask of most homemade hair masks is very short.  You should be keeping your masks in the refrigerator for more prolonged use.

How to use homemade hair masks

  • Wash your hair with shampoo and towel dry.
  • Apply mask along hair length avoiding roots (unless you are using specific mask for roots).
  • Once mask is applied, cover your hair with a plastic bag and then cover with something warm like a towel, shirt or light sweater.  Basically you are making a warm turban (you can always buy special cap for this.  However, if you do not want to spend extra money, just use this homemade “sauna turban”.
  • You need to create heat to your hair mask for couple of reasons a) to activate ingredients in your mask, because they works better with mild heat; and b) heat will make penetration of all mask ingredients better and stronger to your hair.
